Welcome to the Next Step website, which has been designed to provide anyone affected by domestic abuse in South Derbyshire with information, reassurance and sources of help.

The site shows the wide range of support and options available to those who are directly affected by domestic abuse and to those who think someone they have contact with is being abused.

There are a few facts that may shock but at the same reassure you:

• Domestic abuse is extremely common - the Police receive one call every minute of every day about domestic abuse and 1 in 5 of all British marriages/partnerships are thought to be affected by it.
• Domestic abuse affects people from every social class, every race, every culture and every religion, it doesn't just happen to certain kinds of people.
• Domestic abuse happens to people of all ages - and domestic abuse is classed as child abuse.
• Domestic abuse is against the law.

So, those affected are not alone, they are not to blame, they don't have to put up with it and they don't have to deal with it on their own.
